It dawned on me that July's Comic-Con marked 10 years since we put out Hard Ei8ht Volume One. It was our first published comics work.
We showed up to SDCC 2006, a group of fresh-faced animation grads with big dreams and boxes full of our new comic. It was close to a dozen of us crammed into that 10 x 10 booth. At one point, in what will forever be etched in my brain as one of the all-time great Comic-Con moments, Matt Groening walked up. He flipped through the book, pulled out some cash, and paid for it. Then he handed the book our way and asked us to sign it for him. It doesn't get much cooler than that.
It's been more than a decade, but I'm still proud of the work we put into that book, and the friends that came together to make it. None of us knew what we were doing, but that was part of the fun - we wanted to make something cool, so we just did it, figuring things out as we went. Hard Ei8ht Volume One is long sold out and out of print, but you can see some artwork from it here (and we have a few copies of Volume Two left in the shop).
